Tybee island was named by the Indians who first inhabited in this island. Tybee came from Euchee Indian word meaning “salt”. This beach is the easternmost of the state of Georgia and it is directly facing the Atlantic Ocean. There is also an old lighthouse that was built in 1736. This 27-meter-high lighthouse is made of brick and wood. With such high, this lighthouse was once the tallest building in America at that time.
