Magelang ranks 2nd the oldest cities in Indonesia. The city is surrounded by 5 volcanoes, which one of them is considered as the most active volcano in the world. Magelang is also a home for the biggest Buddhist temple in the world: Borobudur Temple. The city is also a fertile agricultural area so you will see paddy fields covering most of the regency area. Magelang is an important city to learn history about Dutch colonialism in Indonesia as well. There are still many Dutch buildings and structures stays in a good condition. This is surprising since not so many local governments in Indonesia have a good concern to preserve old buildings around the city.
